10th ANNUAL VAUGHAN FOOD DRIVE WEDNESDAY IN NORTH CONWAY

FINAL PREPARATIONS ARE UNDERWAY FOR WEDNESDAY’S 10TH ANNUAL FOOD DRIVE AT VAUGHAN COMMUNITY SERVICES IN NORTH CONWAY – AND ORGANIZERS HOPE IT WILL BE THE BIGGEST DRIVE YET.

DENISE LEIGHTON IS THE ADMINISTRATOR AT VAUGHAN, A NON-PROFIT FOOD PANTRY RUN BY THE FIRST CHURCH OF CHRIST, CONGREGATIONAL IN NORTH CONWAY. SHE SAYS DONATED FOOD WILL GO TO FILL HER PANTRY’S COFFERS FIRST, THEN THE REST WILL BE DISTRIBUTED TO SIX OTHER FOOD PANTRIES IN THE VALLEY AREA. SHE SAYS ALL THE FOOD PANTRIES ARE IN GREAT NEED OF FOOD THIS YEAR.

CHURCH PASTOR THE REV. GIL HEALY SAYS VAUGHAN GOT A LETTER FROM THE NEW HAMPSHIRE FOOD BANK SAYING IT WOULD BE DOWN 6,000 TURKEYS THIS YEAR, A NOTICE HE SAYS SORT OF STARTS A DOMINO EFFECT. HE HOPES EVERYONE IN NEED WILL BE ABLE TO SIT DOWN WITH THEIR FAMILY TO A NICE TURKEY DINNER ON THANKSGIVING.

IN ADDITION TO HER HOPE OF GETTING AT LEAST 350 FROZEN TURKEYS (AND THE PANS TO COOK THEM IN), LEIGHTON SAYS THERE’S A NEED FOR NON-PERISHABLE FOOD ITEMS LIKE CANNED MEATS, BAKED BEANS, TOMATOES, ALL KINDS OF CANNED FRUITS, CANNED SOUPS, CHILI, CHOWDER, RAVIOLI, SPAGHETTI-Os, STEWS, GRAVIES, JELLIES, PEANUT BUTTER, COFFEE – REGULAR AND DECAFFEINATED, JUICES, POWDERED MILK, CAKE MIXES, PUDDING MIX, PANCAKE MIX, CEREALS, CRACKERS, HAMBURGER HELPER, MAC ‘N CHEESE, OATMEAL, RAMEN NOODLES, RICE, KIDS SNACKS – AND TOILETRIES AND CLEANING ITEMS.

TAX-DEDUCTIBLE CONTRIBUTIONS OF CASH AND CHECKS ARE ALSO WELCOME.

WMWV 93.5 FM WILL BROADCAST LIVE FROM THE EVENT.

THE FOOD DRIVE STARTS AT 6 A.M. WEDNESDAY AND RUNS UNTIL 6 P.M. VAUGHAN COMMUNITY SERVICES IS LOCATED AT 2503 WHITE MOUNTAIN HIGHWAY, ACROSS THE STREET FROM PEACHES RESTAURANT ON ROUTE 16. DRIVERS CAN JUST DRIVE IN AND VOLUNTEERS WILL BE HAPPY TO HELP UNLOAD THEIR DONATIONS.
