AFFORDABLE HOUSING UNIT OPENS IN CONWAY

by Christian Mower on November 27, 2012

ONE YEAR TO THE DAY OF ITS GROUNDBREAKING, STAKEHOLDERS OF THE 3-STORY “CONWAY PINES” APARTMENT COMPLEX ON POLOQUIN DR. OFF ROUTE 16 GATHERED AT THE NOW FINISHED 3-ACRE SITE MONDAY AFTERNOON TO CELEBRATE ITS OPENING WITH SHORT SPEECHES AND THE CUTTING OF A GREEN RIBBON.

A BEVY OF LOCAL, STATE AND FEDERAL OFFICIALS – ALONG WITH BUILDING CONTRACTORS AND OTHER GUESTS – PACKED A SMALL COMMUNITY ROOM IN A CORNER OF THE COMPLEX TO HEAR SEVERAL SPEAKERS PRAISE THE NEW ENERGY EFFICIENT BUILDING – THAT IS HEATED AND COOLED BY A STATE OF THE ART GEOTHERMAL SYSTEM – AND DESIGNED TO PROVIDE VALLEY AREA WORKERS AND THEIR FAMILIES WITH A WELL MADE, WELL MAINTAINED AND AFFORDABLE PLACE TO LIVE THAT’S CLOSE TO WHERE THEY WORK.

THE COMPLEX ITSELF CONSISTS OF 6 1-BEDROOM APARTMENTS, 23 2-BEDROOM APARTMENTS AND THREE 3-BEDROOM UNITS.

THE CEREMONY WAS HOSTED BY CHRIS DAVIES OF GREAT BRIDGE PROPERTIES – THE COMPANY THAT DEVELOPED THE PROPERTY. THE RENTAL UNITS ARE MADE AFFORDABLE THROUGH A COMBINATION OF INVESTOR CAPITAL, A STATE LOW INCOME HOUSING TAX CREDIT, FEDERAL TAX CREDITS AND FUNDS FROM THE U.S. DEPT. OF AGRICULTURE’S RURAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM.

DAVIES PRAISED THE COOPERATION OF SEVERAL AGENCIES AND THANKED EVERYONE INVOLVED WITH BUILDING THE NEARLY $7 MILLION DOLLAR COMPLEX, INCLUDING THE TOWN OF CONWAY – AND MADE SPECIAL MENTION OF THE COORDINATING EFFORTS OFTHERESA KENNETT – THE PROGRAM DIRECTOR OF THE MOUNT WASHINGTON VALLEY HOUSING COALITION. IN HER BRIEF REMARKS, KENNETT ECHOED DAVIES’ REMARKS AND DIRECTED CREDIT TO HER COALITION’S BOARD, WHO WORKED ON THE PROJECT BEFORE SHE JOINED.

KENNETT THEN SNIPPED THE RIBBON WITH A LARGE PAIR OF SCISSORS TO GREAT APPLAUSE.

CONWAY PINES IS MANAGED BY BEDFORD, NEW HAMPSHIRE BASED STEWART PROPERTY MANAGEMENT.
