ANGELS AND ELVES NEEDS SPONSORS

by Christian Mower on November 19, 2011

ANGELS AND ELVES HEADQUARTERS IS UP AND HUMMING IN NORTH CONWAY AS ORGANIZERS OF THE ANNUAL GIFT DRIVE PREPARE TO HANDLE WHAT COULD BE A RECORD HIGH NUMBER OF REQUESTS.

IT’S THE 8TH YEAR THE KIWANIS CLUB OF MOUNT WASHINGTON VALLEY HAS SPONSORED THE DRIVE. LAST THE YEAR THE PROGRAM PROVIDED HOLIDAY GIFTS FOR NEARLY 750 NEEDY CHILDREN IN THE VALLEY.

KIWANIS MEMBER AND HEAD ELF DICK FICKE SAYS THE NUMBER COULD BE HIGHER THIS YEAR BECAUSE THE ECONOMY HAS NOT IMPROVED – AND BECAUSE OF THE EFFECTS OF TROPICAL STORM IRENE.

ANGELS AND ELVES OPERATION MANAGER MARIE LEE SAYS SHE KNOWS THE ECONOMY HAS AFFECTED POTENTIAL SPONSORS OF GIFTS FOR THE KIDS AS WELL. SHE SUGGESTS WORKERS OR FRIENDS MAY WANT TO POOL THEIR MONEY AS A WAY TO SPONSOR A CHILD.

FICKE SAYS LAST YEAR A 10-YEAR-OLD GIRL ENCOURAGED ALL HER FRIENDS TO CONTRIBUTE TO ANGELS AND ELVES INSTEAD OF GIVING HER A BIRTHDAY PRESENT.
