by Gair on November 6, 2013

THE EXEC. DIRECTOR OF THE ARTS ALLIANCE OF NORTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE IS BEING RECOGNIZED BY NEW HAMPSHIRE GOV. MAGGIE HASSAN.

FRUMIE SELCHEN OF WONALANCET WILL BE AT THE NEW HAMPSHIRE INSTITUTE FOR ART IN MANCHESTER WEDNESDAY EVENING TO ACCEPT THE DISTINGUISHED ARTS LEADERSHIP AWARD FROM THE GOVERNOR.

SELCHEN IS ONE OF EIGHT RECIPIENTS BEING RECOGNIZED, IN HER CASE AS “AN INDIVIDUAL WHO HAS PLAYED A SUSTAINED ROLE IN THE ADVANCEMENT, DIRECTION OR MANAGEMENT OF A NEW HAMPSHIRE NOT-FOR-PROFIT ARTS ORGANIZATION.”

SELCHEN SAYS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING FOR HER ORGANIZATION IS PARTNERING WITH OTHERS TO BRING PROGRAMS TO COMMUNITIES THAT MIGHT NOT OTHERWISE HAVE THEM.

SELCHEN HAS COORDINATED THE APPEARANCE OF ARTISTS AROUND THE VALLEY AREA AND NORTH COUNTRY, INCLUDING A MASTER TABLA DRUMMER FROM PAKISTAN WHO PERFORMED AT KENNETT HIGH SCHOOL IN NORTH CONWAY.

GOV. HASSAN SAYS “THE ARTS HAVE LONG CONTRIBUTED TO BOTH NEW HAMPSHIRE’S CULTURAL IDENTITY AND ECONOMY. THE (GOVERNOR’S) ARTS AWARDS ARE AN OPPORTUNITY TO THANK MEMBERS OF OUR ARTS COMMUNITY FOR THE OUTSTANDING WORK THEY’VE DONE THROUGHOUT THE STATE.”
