Bobhouse removal deadline April 1

by Gair on March 25, 2014

A New Hampshire Fish and Game Officer says the ice might still be quite nice in many places, but all bobhouses – or ice shanties – must be removed from it by the end of the day April 1, 2014.

Lt. Heidi Murphy of the Law Enforcement Division says the law is designed to ensure bobhouses and their contents don’t fall through the ice and become a hazard to boaters – or left behind on shore.

She says you need to move the structure to your own property – and not leave it on public or private property without permission – and don’t burn it, as making a bonfire out of your bobhouse on the ice is illegal and violators are subject to a fine and a one year loss of a fishing license.

Murphy says conservation officers can seize any bobhouse and contents not removed by the deadline.
