The fire chief in Bridgton, Maine says a house on Pond Road is a total loss after it burned early Tuesday morning (1/28/2014).
Glen Garland says his firefighters responded to 169 Pond Rd. just after 4:45 a.m. and on arrival found there was heavy fire throughout the building. Fire departments from Harrison, Naples, Waterford, Sebago and Denmark also assisted.
Garland says no one was hurt but the freezing temperatures and ice buildup were issues.
Bridgton Police and the State Fire Marshal’s office are assisting in investigating the cause.
In a separate incident Monday night, The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office (Maine) says a 62-year-old Naples man was arrested after a short police chase where he was eventually found allegedly trying to hide at the Naples Shopping Center.
Lt. Kerry Joyce says Daniel Lajoie was observed shortly after 9:30 p.m. by Deputy Nicholas Mangino accelerating on the Route 302 Naples Causeway in a 1998 Chevy truck while heading toward Casco.
Lajoie allegedly failed to stop for the deputy and pulled into the shopping center, where he was seen running down a sidewalk in front of the Umbrella Factory before he was found.
Lajoie was taken to the Cumberland County Jail in Portland. He is scheduled for a court Feb. 18, 2014 on charges of criminal speeding, refusing to stop for a police officer, refusing to submit to arrest and unlawful possession of scheduled drugs.
