AS NEW HAMPSHIRE GOV. MAGGIE HASSAN, U.S. SEN. JEANNE SHAHEEN AND OTHER OFFICIALS HONOR EXEC. COUNCILOR RAY BURTON FRIDAY AFTERNOON AT THE OPENING CEREMONY FOR A SCENIC OVERLOOK IN BRETTON WOODS, THE LONGTIME COUNCILOR IS BEING PRAISED FOR HIS SERVICE IN CONWAY.

CONWAY TOWN MANAGER EARL SIRES SAYS BURTON, A REPUBLICAN WHO RECENTLY ANNOUNCED HE WILL NOT RUN FOR RE-ELECTION TO DISTRICT ONE BECAUSE HIS KIDNEY CANCER HAS RETURNED, HAS BEEN “OUR GO-TO GUY WHEN WE NEED HELP, PARTICULARLY WHEN WE’VE NEEDED DIRECT ACCESS TO COMMUNICATE WITH STATE AGENCIES.”

SIRES SAYS BURTON IS FREQUENTLY IN CONWAY AND HAS BEEN MORE ACCESSIBLE THAN ANY OTHER PUBLIC OFFICIAL HE HAS KNOWN. HE CITES BURTON’S HELP ON DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION PROJECTS LIKE THE 10-YEAR PLAN AND THE BYPASS, FUEL SHARING, POST TROPICAL STORM IRENE RECOVERY EFFORTS IN TRANSVALE ACRES AND IN COMMUNITY HISTORIC SITE PLANNING.

SIRES SAYS BURTON’S DEDICATED SERVICE WILL BE MISSED – AND HE WISHES HIM THE BEST.

BURTON WAS ELECTED TO HIS FIRST TERM AS COUNCILOR IN 1977 – AND OTHER THAN A 2-YEAR BREAK, HAS SERVED SINCE THAT TIME.

HE’S BEING HONORED FRIDAY AT THE OPENING CEREMONY OF THE MOUNT WASHINGTON SCENIC OVERLOOK, A PUBLIC PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN NEW HAMPSHIRE, THE MOUNT WASHINGTON HOTEL AND CNL LIFESTYLE PROPERTIES.

BURTON IS ALSO DONATING A PORTRAIT TO THE STATE.
