by Christian Mower on December 7, 2011

THE CHAIRMAN OF THE CARROLL COUNTY COMMISSION SAYS HE’S TRYING TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF GUARDS AT THE COUNTY JAIL AND COVER THE RAZOR WIRE FENCE THAT SURROUNDS AN EXERCISE YARD AFTER THURSDAY’S ESCAPE OF A PRISON INMATE.

DAVID SORENSEN SAYS HIS COMMISSION HAS GOTTEN A REPORT ON THE JAIL’S SECURITY STATUS FROM JASON JOHNSON, THE SUPT.OF THE CARROLL COUNTY HOUSE OF CORRECTIONS IN OSSIPEE – THAT INCLUDES SECURITY ENHANCEMENTS JOHNSON HAS REQUESTED IN THE PAST.

THE SECURITY REVIEW COMES AFTER 33-YEAR-OLD DAVID GLENN HOBSON OF ALFRED, MAINE  SCALED A RAZOR WIRE FENCE AT THE JAIL AND ESCAPED WHILE ON A RECREATION BREAK THURSDAY.

HOBSON WAS CAPTURED TUESDAY EVENING IN ROCHESTER, NEW HAMPSHIRE AFTER AN INTENSE MULTI-AGENCY MANHUNT FOR HIM IN NEW HAMPSHIRE AND MAINE THAT INCLUDED U.S. MARSHALS.

SORENSEN CREDITS THE CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS AT THE JAIL FOR DOING A GOOD JOB, SAYING HE DOESN’T FAULT ANYONE ON THE JAIL’S STAFF FOR HOBSON’S ESCAPE AND THAT IT HAPPENED WHEN A GUARD WHO WAS ASSIGNED TO MONITOR BOTH AN OUTSIDE AND INSIDE AREA BRIEFLY STEPPED INSIDE.

SORENSEN DOESN’T ANTICIPATE ANY DISCIPLINARY ACTION TOWARD ANY MEMBERS OF THE JAIL’S STAFF BUT DOES SAY THERE MAY BE A CHANGE IN PROCEDURES – AND INCREASED STAFF TRAINING.

SORENSEN SAYS HIS COMMISSION HAS ALREADY REQUESTED AN ADDITIONAL TWO CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS BE ADDED TO THE JAIL’S STAFF – HE WILL RESTATE THAT REQUEST MONDAY AT A PUBLIC MEETING WITH THE COUNTY DELEGATION, WHICH INCLUDES 14 STATE REPRESENTATIVES FROM CARROLL COUNTY.
