A CARROLL COUNTY GRAND JURY HAS HANDED UP INDICTMENTS IN SEVERAL HIGH PROFILE CASES IN THE VALLEY AREA.

A SPOKESPERSON FOR THE CARROLL COUNTY ATTORNEY’S OFFICE SAYS 32-YEAR-OLD MICHAEL J. REHMERT OF FRYEBURG, MAINE AND 21-YEAR-OLD JOSHUA RIFF OF CONWAY ARE EACH CHARGED WITH TWO FELONY COUNTS – INCLUDING ARMED ROBBERY AND CONSPIRACY – IN CONNECTION WITH THE NIGHT TIME HEIST IN NOVEMBER AT THE T.D. BANK BRANCH IN NORTH CONWAY.

IN THAT INCIDENT, POLICE BELIEVE REHMERT SLID ACROSS THE DRIVER’S CAR HOOD WHILE THE DRIVER WAS TRYING TO MAKE A NIGHT DEPOSIT – BEFORE STEALING THE DRIVER’S MONEY, CELL PHONE AND CAR KEYS. NO ONE WAS HURT. RIFF WAS ALLEGEDLY WAITING IN A NEARBY GETAWAY CAR.

THE TWO TEENS WHO ALLEGEDLY BROKE INTO KENNETT HIGH SCHOOL AND VANDALIZED IT IN LATE AUGUST ARE BOTH CHARGED WITH A SINGLE COUNT OF FELONY CRIMINAL MISCHIEF. THE CHARGE CARRIES A POTENTIAL PRISON TERM OF SEVEN YEARS.

AT THE TIME OF THEIR ARRESTS IN EARLY SEPTEMBER (2011), CONWAY POLICE LT. CHRIS PERLEY IDENTIFIED 17-YEAR-OLD GARRETT GAGNE OF ALBANY AND 18-YEAR-OLD JON COOPER OF JACKSON AS RECENT KENNETT GRADUATES. PERLEY SAYS POLICE RECOVERED PHYSICAL EVIDENCE, INCLUDING SURVEILLANCE PHOTOS, THAT IDENTIFIED THE MEN, WHO ALLEGEDLY GATHERED BAND INSTRUMENTS AND SPORT TROPHIES, DAMAGED COMPUTER EQUIPMENT, WROTE ON THE WALLS – AND ONE OF THEM URINATED ON A CHAIR.

IN ANOTHER HIGH PROFILE CASE, 18-YEAR-OLD JOHN R. COLCORD – WHO LIVED IN EATON AND MADISON – HAS BEEN INDICTED ON FIVE FELONY ARSON CHARGES AND SIX MISDEMEANOR CHARGES IN CONNECTION WITH A SERIES OF SUSPICIOUS HOUSE AND BRUSH FIRES THAT INVESTIGATORS DETERMINED WERE SET IN THE MADISON AREA LAST SPRING.

COLCORD – A FORMER VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER WITH THE MADISON FIRE DEPARTMENT – IS FROM A FAMILY THAT INCLUDES MEMBERS WHO ARE SERVING OR HAVE SERVED IN HIGH RANKING FIREFIGHTER POSITIONS FOR YEARS IN THE VALLEY AREA.
