CDS: FIRE DESTROYS EAST CONWAY MEAT BUSINESS

THE CONWAY DAILY SUN SAYS INVESTIGATORS ARE BLAMING GREASE THAT CAUGHT FIRE NEAR THE DOOR OF A SMOKING OPERATION WITH BURNING DOWN TWO BUILDINGS AT A MEAT SELLER’S BUSINESS IN EAST CONWAY.

NUMEROUS FIRE DEPARTMENTS – INCLUDING EAST CONWAY, REDSTONE, CENTER CONWAY, FRYEBURG AND SACO VALLEY RESPONDED SHORTLY BEFORE 8 P.M. MONDAY TO EAST CONWAY BEEF AND PORK AT 3097 EAST CONWAY ROAD AFTER A REPORT A BARN WAS ON FIRE AND THE OWNER WAS EVACUATING HIS CATTLE.

ON ARRIVAL, FLAMES WERE REPORTED TO BE COMING OUT OF THE ROOF.

THE FIRE WAS REPORTED TO BE KNOCKED DOWN SHORTLY AFTER 9 P.M. AND THE LAST UNIT CLEARED THE SCENE SHORTLY BEFORE 11 P.M., ONLY TO BE CALLED BACK EARLY TUESDAYSHORTLY BEFORE 5 A.M. AFTER THE FIRE FLARED UP AGAIN.

EAST CONWAY FIRE CHIEF RICHARD MERR TELLS THE SUN THAT FIRE DESTROYED AN ADJACENT BUILDING.

FIREFIGHTERS RETURNED TO THE SCENE AGAIN LATE YESTERDAY MORNING (TUESDAY) AFTER A REPORT OF SMOLDERING.

THE SUN REPORTS A LARGE AMOUNT OF PIG MEAT AND EQUIPMENT WAS LOST BUT NO ONE WAS HURT AND NO LIVE ANIMALS WERE INJURED.
