CONWAY AUTO DEALER GM PLEASED WITH BILL

THE GENERAL MANAGER OF A LARGE CAR DEALERSHIP IN NORTH CONWAY SAYS HE’S EXCITED ABOUT LAST WEEK’S PASSAGE BY NEW HAMPSHIRE’S HOUSE AND SENATE OF THE SO-CALLED “DEALERS BILL OF RIGHTS.”

CHRIS WEISS OF CREST AUTO WORLD ON EASTMAN RD. – WHO ALSO SERVES AS VICE CHAIR OF THE NEW HAMPSHIRE AUTOMOBILE DEALERS ASSOCIATION, AN ORGANIZATION THAT REPRESENTS 14,000 WORKERS AND NEARLY A QUARTER OF RETAIL SALES IN THE STATE – SAYS HE PUT A LOT OF EFFORT INTO MAKING SURE THE LEGISLATION WAS FAIR AND BALANCED AS HE WORKED ON IT WITH STATE SEN. ANDY SANBORN.

OFFICIALLY CALLED SB 126, THE BILL DEFINES BUSINESS PRACTICES BETWEEN MOTOR VEHICLE MANUFACTURERS, DISTRIBUTORS AND DEALERS. WEISS SAYS IT WILL CREATE MORE FAIRNESS, TRANSPARENCY AND EQUALITY BETWEEN DEALERS AND MANUFACTURERS.

WEISS SAYS THE BILL ALSO INCLUDES EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURERS, WHO ASKED TO BE INCLUDED, SO NOW DEALERS OF EQUIPMENT LIKE JOHN DEERE AND KUBODA WILL BE AFFORDED SIMILAR PROTECTIONS TO WHAT THE AUTO DEALERS HAVE. LANGUAGE IN THE BILL DETAILS POLICY FOR REIMBURSEMENT FOR WARRANTY REPAIRS AND GEOGRAPHIC TERRITORY, AMONG OTHER ITEMS.

THE BILL ALSO GIVES DEALERS 15 YEARS BETWEEN FACILITY UPGRADES, SOMETHING WEISS SAYS CREATES SECURITY FOR HIS DEALERSHIP THAT SELLS CHEVROLET, CHRYSLER, DODGE, JEEP AND RAM VEHICLES.

THE BILL NOW AWAITS ACTION BY GOV. MAGGIE HASSAN.

WEISS SAYS HE’S CONFIDENT THE GOVERNOR WILL SIGN IT BECAUSE HE HAS GOTTEN SUCH OVERWHELMING BIPARTISAN SUPPORT FROM HOUSE AND SENATE MEMBERS.

A SPOKESMAN FOR THE GOVERNOR PROVIDED THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT ABOUT THE BILL, “GOVERNOR HASSAN UNDERSTANDS THE IMPORTANT ROLE THAT NEW HAMPSHIRE’S AUTO DEALERS PLAY IN OUR ECONOMY, AND LOOKS FORWARD TO HEARING FROM THE BILL’S SPONSORS AND ADVOCATES AS SHE REVIEWS THE LEGISLATION.”
