CONWAY CREWS CALLED TO HELP WITH BARTLETT FIRE OVERHAUL

FIREFIGHTERS FROM THE CONWAY AREA HAVE BEEN CALLED TO BARTLETT TO HELP WITH THE OVERHAUL AFTER A FOREST FIRE SUNDAY.

CENTER CONWAY FIRE CHIEF RAY LEAVITT SAYS HE’S HAD A CREW UP IN BARTLETT SINCE 7 A.M. MONDAY AND LATE MONDAY MORNING DEPARTMENTS IN NORTH CONWAY, CONWAY, EAST CONWAY AND REDSTONE WERE ALSO CALLED TO HELP.

DETAILS OF WHAT HAPPENED IN BARTLETT SUNDAY AREN’T IMMEDIATELY AVAILABLE BUT LEAVITT SAYS THE FIRE WAS NEAR MIDDLE LEDGE ROAD.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ISSUED A SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT FOR THE VALLEY AREA AND WESTERN MAINE MONDAY AFTERNOON WARNING OF THE POTENTIAL FOR HIGH FIRE DANGER BECAUSE OF LOW HUMIDITY, GUSTY WINDS AND DRY GROUND IN THE FORECAST AREA.

NEW HAMPSHIRE GOV. JOHN LYNCH AND STATE FIRE MARSHAL BILL DEGNAN ARE WARNING EVERYONE IN NEW HAMPSHIRE TO BE AWARE OF THE CONDITIONS AND TAKE THE FOLLOWING ACTION:

TALK TO YOUR LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT ABOUT CHANGING CONDITIONS AND ENSURE YOU HAVE A REQUIRED PERMIT BEFORE BURNING OUTSIDE – NO FIRE PERMITS WILL BE ISSUED MONDAY, AND PROPERLY DISPOSE OF CIGARETTE BUTTS AND WOOD ASH – AND INFORM CHILDREN OF THE DANGEROUS CONDITIONS.

REPORTS INDICATE FIREFIGHTERS IN TAMWORTH RESPONDED TO AN OUTSIDE BRUSH FIRE MONDAY MORNING AT 1192 WHITTIER ROAD NEAR GILMAN VALLEY ROAD. THE REPORT CAME IN SHORTLY AFTER 9:45 A.M. AND A RESPONDER AT THE SCENE REPORTED THE FIRE WAS SPREADING QUICKLY AND NEAR A HOUSE.

THE FIRE WAS REPORTED TO BE UNDER CONTROL SHORTLY BEFORE 10:15 A.M. MONDAY AND OUT BY 11 A.M. WEST OSSIPEE FIREFIGHTERS AND NORTH CONWAY AMBULANCE ASSISTED.
