CONWAY MAN INDICTED FOR ALLEGED BURGLARY IN ALBANY

A CARROLL COUNTY GRAND JURY HAS INDICTED A 54-YEAR-OLD CONWAY MAN FOR ALLEGED CRIMES THAT INVOLVED BREAKING INTO A HOME IN ALBANY IN 2011 AND STALKING THE WOMAN WHO LIVED THERE.

MERLE SWEENEY OF WOODLAND GROVE ROAD IS ACCUSED OF TWO FELONY COUNTS OF BURGLARY – FOR ALLEGEDLY TRYING TO ENTER THE VICTIM’S HOME ON ROUTE 16 SEPTEMBER 14TH TO EITHER ASSAULT OR SEXUALLY ASSAULT HER.

SWEENEY IS ALSO CHARGED WITH COMMITTING SIMPLE ASSAULT THAT DAY FOR ALLEGEDLY TOUCHING OR GRABBING THE WOMAN’S ARMS – AND WITH TWO OTHER MISDEMEANORS THAT ALLEGEDLY HAPPENED DURING MAY OR JUNE – ONE OF SIMPLE ASSAULT FOR ALLEGEDLY TOUCHING OR GRABBING THE WOMAN WITH HIS HAND, AND ANOTHER OF STALKING, FOR ALLEGEDLY FOLLOWING THE WOMAN IN HER VEHICLE AND CONFRONTING HER IN ALBANY AND CONWAY, INCLUDING WHERE SHE WORKED AND NEAR HER HOME.

SWEENEY IS SCHEDULED TO BE ARRAIGNED IN OSSIPEE JANUARY 24TH.

IF THE CASE PROCEEDS TO TRIAL – AND TO AVOID A CONFLICT OF INTEREST – IT WILL BE PROSECUTED BY A LAWYER FROM THE OFFICE OF THE BELKNAP COUNTY ATTORNEY.
