Conway Native Former Congressional Staffer Chip Kennett Passed Away

A Conway Native and Former Congressional Staffer passed away this weekend. According to the Conway Daily Sun, Bayard Winslow Kennett 2nd lost his battle with Lung Cancer this Saturday at age 34. Known by most as Chip Kennett, he graduated from Kennett high in 1999 and has deep family roots in the Mount Washington Valley. His Parents are both former Conway selectmen, and Kennett High and Middle school are named for A. Crosby Kennett. Kennett worked on Capitol Hill for nearly 8 years in various roles including as the legislative assistant for Senator John Sununu and as a director of appropriations for Maine Senator Susan Collins. He was diagnosed with Lung Cancer in 2012, but refusing to let it get him down he became an advocate for cancer research even testifying on Capitol Hill to help draw attention to cancers that need more funding to help develop better treatments. He is survived by his wife Sheila, his two children, Bayard “Joe” Kennett III, 5, and Crosby Reynolds, 2. His parents Bayard and Theresa Kennett of Conway, and his brother and sister in law Tanner and Sarah Kennett of North Conway. Though he may be gone in body his spirit and legacy will live on both in the Valley and across the Nation as others fight to find a cure. Funeral Services will be held Thursday in Virginia with Local Conway Services to be announced.
