CONWAY P.D. PLANS FOOD DRIVE

A VETERAN DISPATCHER WITH THE CONWAY POLICE DEPARTMENT IS BEING CREDITED WITH COMING UP WITH THE IDEA FOR A HOLIDAY FOOD DRIVE.

LT. CHRIS PERLEY SAYS BECAUSE OF AN IDEA FROM JOANNE MacKENZIE, HIS DEPARTMENT WILL TEAM UP WITH TWO LOCAL SUPERMARKET CHAINS, HANNAFORDS AND SHAW’S, FOR THE “CRAM THE CRUISER AND LOCK UP HUNGER” EVENT DEC. 14, 2013.

SHOPPERS WILL BE ENCOURAGED TO PLACE NON-PERISHABLE FOOD ITEMS IN THE BACK OF THE CRUISERS AT THE SUPERMARKETS THAT WILL THEN BE DRIVEN TO VAUGHAN COMMUNITY SERVICE, INC. IN NORTH CONWAY – OR THE CONWAY VILLAGE CHURCH – THE LITTLE BROWN CHURCH FOOD PANTRY.

VAUGHAN ADMINISTRATOR DENISE LEIGHTON SAYS THE FOOD DRIVE IS WONDERFUL – SHE WISHES THEY WOULD HAPPEN ALL YEAR LONG INSTEAD OF JUST DURING HOLIDAY PERIODS – AND THERE IS A “CONTINUING NEED” TO KEEP AREA FOOD PANTRIES SUPPLIED.
