CONWAY PARTNERS TO RUN N. CONWAY RINK

by Christian Mower on September 21, 2012

THE TOWN OF CONWAY HAS ENDORSED A PUBLIC PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP TO ENSURE THERE WILL BE OUTDOOR SKATING IN NORTH CONWAY’S SCHOULER PARK THIS WINTER.

JOHN EASTMAN – THE DIRECTOR OF THE CONWAY PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT – SAYS THE OTHER PARTICIPANTS INCLUDE THE OUTING CLUB, THE NORTH CONWAY WATER PRECINCT – WHO’S VOTERS HAVE AUTHORIZED FUNDS TO HELP OPERATE THE RINK – AND THE CONWAY COMMUNITY CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE, WHICH WILL HELP RAISE MONEY FROM AREA BUSINESSES.

EASTMAN SAYS HE’LL MANAGE THE RINK AND MAKE SURE THE SNOW IS KEPT OFF IT – AND ONE OF HIS STAFF MEMBER’S WILL BE AT THE RINK TO SUPERVISE DURING OPERATING HOURS.

THE WARMING HUT WILL BE SPRUCED UP AND AVAILABLE TO SKATERS. EASTMAN SAYS THERE WILL BE SOME NEW RULES THAT WILL MAKE THE RINK VERY FAMILY FRIENDLY, INCLUDING NOT ALLOWING STICKS AND PUCKS ON THE RINK.

CURRENT PLANS CALL FOR THE RINK TO BE OPEN FRIDAYS, SATURDAYS AND SUNDAYS THROUGH THE WINTER – AND DURING THE FEBRUARY VACATION WEEKS. EASTMAN HOPES TO HAVE IT OPEN AND RUNNING BY THE CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY WEEK.

EASTMAN SAYS HE’LL KEEP PEOPLE INFORMED OF OPERATING HOURS AND CONDITIONS THROUGH LOCAL MEDIA OUTLETS – ON THE REC. DEPARTMENT’S WEBSITE AND FACEBOOK PAGE – AND THROUGH THE WEBSITE OF THE MOUNT WASHINGTON VALLEY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
