by Gair on March 15, 2013

CONWAY POLICE URGE MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC TO BE CAREFUL AFTER A CITIZEN REPORTED SEEING FOUR SYRINGES LYING ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IN CONWAY WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON.

LT. CHRIS PERLEY SAYS OFFICER SHAWN BALDWIN RESPONDED TO STARK RD. NEAR WOODLAND GROVE RD. AROUND 12:30 P.M. AND COLLECTED THE NEEDLES.

PERLEY SAYS IT’S EMBLEMATIC OF THE INCREASE IN USE – AND ABUSE – OF INTRAVENOUS DRUGS IN THE COMMUNITY.

PERLEY SAYS HIS DEPARTMENT HAS SPECIAL CONTAINERS TO COLLECT NEEDLES AND ANYONE WHO SEES THEM ON THE GROUND SHOULD CALL POLICE. THE COLLECTED NEEDLES ALSO MIGHT HELP POLICE INVESTIGATE CRIMINAL DRUG USE OR TRAFFICKING.

HE URGES EVERYONE TO BE CAREFUL AS THE SNOW MELTS AND THEY GET OUT AND ABOUT. HE SAYS ADULTS SHOULD TELL THEIR CHILDREN NOT TO TOUCH ANY NEEDLES THEY SEE – AND TELL AN ADULT ABOUT THEM.
