CONWAY SCHOOL DISTRICT MEETING DRAWS ABOUT 125

THE CHAIRPERSON OF THE CONWAY SCHOOL BOARD SAYS ABOUT 125 PEOPLE TURNED OUT MONDAY NIGHT AT KENNETT HIGH SCHOOL FOR THE CONWAY SCHOOL DISTRICT DELIBERATIVE SESSION.

JANINE McLAUCHLAN SAYS THE PROPOSED BUDGET OF ABOUT $31,901,000 – RECOMMENDED BY BOTH THE MUNICIPAL BUDGET COMMITTEE AND SCHOOL BOARD – PASSED WITHOUT DISCUSSION.

MCLAUCHLAN SAYS THERE WAS EXTENSIVE DISCUSSION OF ARTICLE 17, THE PROPOSAL TO RAISE ABOUT $162,000 TO ESTABLISH FULL DAY KINDERGARTEN IN EACH OF THE THREE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS. THE IDEA WAS NARROWLY RECOMMENDED BY THE SCHOOL BOARD BUT NOT RECOMMENDED BY THE BUDGET COMMITTEE. THE ARTICLE PASSED WITHOUT AMENDMENT.

THERE WAS ALSO EXTENSIVE DISCUSSION OF ARTICLE 20, THE PROPOSAL TO RAISE AND APPROPRIATE NEARLY $97,000 TO ESTABLISH A FOURTH ACADEMIC TEAM AT KENNETT MIDDLE SCHOOL.

THIS WAS NARROWLY RECOMMENDED BY THE SCHOOL BOARD AND NOT RECOMMENDED BY THE BUDGET COMMMITTEE BUT PASSED WITHOUT AMENDMENT.

THE MEETING RAN FOR NEARLY THREE HOURS.
