The Democratic candidate to fill the unexpired term of the late District One Exec. Councilor Ray Burton – who was a Republican – says he’s honored to receive the endorsement of Burton’s family.

Mike Cryans says in a press release he has been endorsed by Burton’s sisters Joan Day of Concord and Mary Grimes of Columbia – and by Burton’s brother, Steve Burton of Hanover.

Burton’s surviving siblings praise the work their late brother did as a councilor, before saying about Cryans “we must look north and elect someone to continue to advocate for northern New Hampshire residents,” “I cannot think of a more qualified individual to fill his seat than Mike Cryans” and “I know he will make an excellent executive councilor.”

The popular Burton was admired for bringing people together and providing excellent constituent service. The longest serving executive councilor in the history of New Hampshire, he died in November OF 2013 of cancer before finishing his latest term as councilor.

Cryans faces Republican Joe Kenney in a special election for Burton’s seat March 11, 2014.
