Conway, NH – It doesn’t look like congested parking near Diana’s Baths is going to change anytime soon. The Conway Board Of Selectmen sent a letter to the State DOT requesting that parking be banned on West Side Road in the area around Diana’s Baths based on community concerns related to environmental impact, traffic safety, and damage to neighboring properties.

DOT Commissioner Victoria Sheehan denied their request for now. In her response she noted that prohibiting parking on the road would “have a tremendous impact on the quality of the visitor experience”. she cites this as a reason to not prohibit parking along the road without getting input from public and private stakeholders.

The Commissioner said that an effort to get input from stakeholders about prohibiting parking on West Side Road as well as on issues at other natural attractions throughout the state is underway. This effort began on January 30th with a stakeholder workshop at the AMC Highland Center. The Commissioner said the next step would be to “develop task groups to address specific areas of concern”.

Conway Selectmen will be discussing the Commissioners response at the next meeting on Tuesday March 28th at 4pm.
