EFFINGHAM POLICE ARREST NEVADA FUGITIVE

POLICE IN EFFINGHAM SAY A 31-YEAR-OLD MAN WHO IS CHARGED WITH VARIOUS FELONIES IN NEVADA WAS ARRESTED WEDNESDAY AFTER A ROUTINE TRAFFIC STOP IN EFFINGHAM.

DETECTIVE SGT. BOB KING SAYS EFFINGHAM POLICE CHIEF JOSEPH COLLINS ARRESTED MICHAEL FORD AFTER PULLING HIM OVER FOR A MINOR TRAFFIC VIOLATION.

KING SAYS FORD WAS A CORRECTIONS OFFICER FOR THE NEVADA STATE PRISON WHEN HE WAS ACCUSED OF GETTING PAID FOR SMUGGLING TOBACCO, CELL PHONES AND DRUGS TO PRISONERS.

FORD IS CHARGED WITH GROSS MISCONDUCT OF A PUBLIC OFFICIAL – RECEVING A BRIBE – AND CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT UNAUTHORIZED COMMUNICATION WITH A PRISONER.

POLICE BELIEVE FORD HAS TIES TO THE VALLEY AREA AND CAME HERE AFTER LEARNING OF A WARRANT FOR HIS ARREST.

FORD IS BEING HELD AT THE CARROLL COUNTY JAIL IN OSSIPEE PENDING HIS EXTRADITION TO NEVADA.
