FIRE DESTROYS BARN IN FREEDOM; PIGS ESCAPE

THE FIRE CHIEF IN FREEDOM SAYS AN ADULT PIG AND EIGHT PIGLETS ESCAPED FROM A SMALL BURNING BARN THAT WAS DESTROYED BY FIRE FRIDAY MORNING AT A HOME IN FREEDOM.

JUSTIN BROOKS SAYS HIS FIREFIGHTERS AND NORTH CONWAY AMBULANCE WERE CALLED TO 65 VILLAGE RD. SHORTLY BEFORE 4:45 A.M. AND FOUND A SMALL OUT BUILDING OF ABOUT 8 BY 10 FEET FULLY INVOLVED.

A FIRST ALARM WAS INITIALLY DECLARED AND FIREFIGHTERS FROM SURROUNDING TOWNS CALLED TO RESPOND BUT MOST WERE CALLED OFF AFTER INITIAL RESPONDERS ARRIVED AT THE SCENE SHORTLY BEFORE 5 A.M.

CENTER OSSIPEE FIREFIGHTERS CONTINUED.

BROOKS SAYS THE FIRE INSIDE THE BARN APPARENTLY STARTED WHEN AN ELECTRIC HEATING LAMP FELL OVER ONTO SOME BEDDING AND IGNITED IT.

THE HOME OWNERS MANAGED TO GET THE PIGS OUT BUT THE BARN WAS DESTROYED.

FIREFIGHTERS WORKED TO PROTECT THE MAIN HOUSE THAT WAS ONLY 50 FEET AWAY.

THE FIRE WAS REPORTED OUT SHORTLY BEFORE 5:30 A.M.

NO ONE WAS HURT.
