THE CHIEF OF THE CENTER OSSIPEE FIRE DEPARTMENT SAYS FIREFIGHTERS “DODGED A BULLET” EARLY WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AFTER A FIRST ALARM THAT WAS REPORTED TO BE A STRUCTURE FIRE.

MIKE BROWNELL SAYS HIS FIREFIGHTERS, NORTH CONWAY AMBULANCE AND OTHER FIRE DEPARTMENTS WERE CALLED OUT AROUND 12:30 P.M. TO A BUILDING AT 4 MOULTONVILLE RD.

THE REPORT WAS THERE WAS FIRE IN THE BACK OF THE BUILDING. ARRIVING WITHIN MINUTES, BROWNELL’S FIREFIGHTERS FOUND WHAT APPEARED TO BE SMOKE, BUT FURTHER INVESTIGATION DETERMINED IT WAS ACTUALLY STEAM CAUSED BY A PROBLEM WITH THE LOW WATER CUTOFF OF THE BOILER THAT WAS ESCAPING UP THE CHIMNEY.

THE BOILER WAS SHUT DOWN AND THE STEAM STOPPED.

OTHER RESPONDERS WERE QUICKLY CALLED OFF IT AFTER IT WAS DETERMINED IT WAS NOT AN ACTUAL FIRE.
