Police in Fryeburg, Maine say they are looking for a white man with rotten teeth and a severe case of acne after a stabbing and armed robbery in Fryeburg late Tuesday morning.

Sgt. Josh Potvin says the suspect – who is about 5 feet 8 inches tall with a medium build and believed to be in his upper 20s to lower 30s – entered the Creature Comforts pet grooming business at 169 Lovewell Pond Rd. about 11:30 a.m. carrying a pregnant dog wrapped in a dirty blue blanket and told the owner – a 46-year-old woman who lives in Fryeburg – he needed help delivering the dog’s puppies.

Potvin says the business owner then tried to call a veterinarian for help the suspect – who was wearing a camouflage ball cap, a green canvas style barn coat and black winter gloves – made a comment about not wanting to go back to jail, apparently thinking she was calling the police.

The suspect then became enraged and started assaulting the woman with a statue that was on a shelf and the victim pulled out cutting shears and tried to defend herself, but the suspect grabbed them and stabbed her with them repeatedly.

The victim lost consciousness after sustaining several cuts and bruises and she was later taken to Bridgton Hospital, where she is reported to be in stable condition. Her young daughter, who was in a nearby room, was not hurt.

The suspect ran out of the business after taking money from the victim’s purse and donations in a jar for animal rescue. The condition of the dog is not known.

Potvin calls the crime senseless, wishes the victim a speedy recovery and has told her police will do everything they can to bring the suspect to justice.

Anyone with information about the crime or the suspect is asked to call Fryeburg Police at (207) 935-3323.
