THE U.S. MARSHAL’S SERVICE SAYS A 42-YEAR-OLD FUGITIVE WAS BEING HELD WITHOUT BAIL AT THE CARROLL COUNTY JAIL AFTER BEING ARRESTED IN EFFINGHAM LATE MONDAY NIGHT.

DEPUTY U.S. MARSHALL JEFFREY WHITE SAYS MARK ADJUTANT WAS WANTED FOR ALLEGEDLY VIOLATION CONDITIONS OF PAROLE AND PROBATION RELATED TO PRIOR CONVICTIONS FOR ARSON AND ATTEMPTED THEFT – AND WANTED BY WAKEFIELD POLICE ON A WARRANT FOR ALLEGED THEFT AND FRAUDULENT USE OF A CREDIT CARD AFTER AN INCIDENT IN JUNE WHERE A PURSE WAS STOLEN FROM A CAR AT A GAS STATION IN WAKEFIELD.

INVESTIGATORS HAD BEEN LOOKING FOR ADJUTANT IN NEW HAMPSHIRE AND VERMONT AND DETERMINED HE HAD RETURNED TO A HOUSE IN EFFINGHAM.

A JOINT FUGITIVE TASK FORCE MAKE UP OF PROBATION AND PAROLE OFFICERS, CARROLL COUNTY DEPUTY SHERIFFS AND EFFINGHAM POLICE WENT TO THE HOUSE MONDAY NIGHT AND WERE CONFRONTED AT THE DOOR BY A VICIOUS DOG THEY HAD TO PEPPER SPRAY TO CONTROL. WHILE SEARCHING THE HOUSE THEY FOUND ADJUTANT HIDING IN A BATHROOM AND HE WAS ARRESTED WITHOUT INCIDENT.

WHITE SAYS THE NEW HAMPSHIRE JOINT FUGITIVE TASK FORCE – WITH THE MARSHAL’S SERVICE ACTING WITH LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT – HAS ARRESTED MORE THAN 5,500 SUSPECTS FOR OFFENSES LIKE ASSAULT, MURDER AND UNREGISTERED SEX OFFENDERS SINCE IT WAS FORMED IN 2002.
