GAS LEAK CAUSES EVACUATION OF STAPLES IN NORTH CONWAY

CONWAY POLICE REQUESTED PEOPLE AVOID THE AREA AND CLOSED DOWN AN ADJACENT ROAD AFTER A REPORTED PROPANE GAS LEAK IN SETTLERS CORNER IN NORTH CONWAY LATE MONDAY MORNING.

THE STAPLES STORE WAS EVACUATED WHILE BARNES ROAD WAS CLOSED TO TRAFFIC AFTER SOMEONE REPORTED A LEAK BEHIND THE BUILDING.

FIREFIGHTERS FROM NORTH CONWAY FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED AT THE SCENE SHORTLY AFTER 11:20 A.M. THE STAPLES STORE WAS EVACUATED AND CUSTOMERS AT THE NEARBY HOME DEPOT STORE WERE KEPT THERE TEMPORARILY.

FIRE CHIEF PAT PREECE TELLS THE CONWAY DAILY SUN THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY A MALFUNCTIONING REGULATOR.

THE POWER TO THE STAPLES STORE WAS SHUT DOWN.

WHILE AT THE STAPLES CALL, PREECE’S DEPARTMENT ALSO RESPONDED FOR A PROBLEM WITH A SPRINKLER SYSTEM AT A STORE IN SETTLER’S GREEN – POLICE RECORDS INDICATE THAT PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY A BROKEN SPRINKLER HEAD IN THE LOBBY.

THERE WERE NO REPORTS OF INJURIES AND STAPLES REOPENED MONDAY AFTERNOON.

PREECE TELLS THE SUN PROPERTY OWNERS SHOULD MAKE SURE THEIR HEATING AND FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEMS HAVE BEEN SERVICED AND CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS ARE WITHIN THEIR SERVICE DATES AND WORKING.
