Healthcare providers offer special sign-up day

Three valley area health providers are teaming up to offer help to people looking for plans in the Health Insurance Marketplace.

Kathy Bennett – a spokesperson for Memorial Hospital in North Conway, says all marketplace plans cover essential health benefits with free preventive care – and most people will qualify for tax credits to pay for the insurance.

Memorial Hospital and the Tamworth-based ServiceLink of Carroll County – An Aging and Disability Resource Center – will provide insurance experts – who will be on hand Saturday March 22, 2014 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at White Mountain Community Health Center at 298 White Mountain Hwy. in Conway to help people find and sign up for health insurance coverage that’s required under the Affordable Care Act.

Siena Kaplan is an expert on various health insurance coverage options and works at the health center as a “navigator” helping people sign up for coverage. She says for the most part, people are really happy to have the option of signing up for health insurance coverage that may cost them less than what they’re paying now – and enables people like her to buy coverage for the first time.

Appointments are preferred – and can be made by calling (603) 447-8900 – but walk-ins will also be accommodated.

Enrollees are asked to bring social security numbers for everyone in their household, employer and income information like pay stubs or W-2 forms, policy numbers for any current health insurance plans and information on employer health insurance being offered.

The marketplace open enrollment period ends March 31, 2014 and anyone who does not have insurance at that point will be subject to a financial penalty – and will have to wait until the next enrollment period in the fall to sign up for coverage.
