The World Championship of Mud Football returns to beautiful downtown North Conway Village, and Hog Coliseum this weekend, September 7 through 9! WMWV’S Mark Johnson will be broadcasting live form 10:00am-Noon on Friday, so drop by and say hello!
Featuring 10 teams from all over New England, this double-elimination, three-day football tournament played in knee deep mud has been a staple of early September in the Village’ since 1976. Teams include the hometown 11-time champion Mount Washington Valley Hogs, the 17-time champion Muddas Football Club of Amherst, N.H.; the four-time champion Nashua Mud Gumbys of Nashua, N.H.; the 2001 champion Merrimack Mudcats of Franklin N.H.; the 2005 champion North Shore Mudsharks of Beverly, Mass.; the Carrabassett Valley Rats of Kingfield, Maine (founders of mud football); the Cumberland Muckaneers of Cumberland, R.I.; Jack’s Predators of Peabody Mass., North Country Mud Crocs and the Mud Ducks.
The annual Tournament of Mud Parade through downtown North Conway begins at 10:00am, Saturday and features open and team classes – this years theme is “Mud Bowl Musical.”
Now in it’s 35th year the Mud Bowl has raised over $500,000 for charitable organizations, with the primary beneficiaries being the North Conway Day Care Center, the North Conway Community Center, and the Carroll County Retired Senior Volunteer Program.
