HOSPITAL RAISES MONEY FOR WATER SAFETY

by Christian Mower on July 18, 2013

A SPOKESPERSON FOR NORTH CONWAY’S MEMORIAL HOSPITAL SAYS TWO VARIETY SHOWS PUT ON BY THE HOSPITAL IN JUNE RAISED NEARLY $1,200 FOR A LOCAL NON-PROFIT WATER SAFETY EDUCATION FUND.

KATHY BENNETT SAYS THE SHOWS, HELD JUNE 21/22 AT M & D THEATRE IN NORTH CONWAY, WERE A RESOUNDING SUCCESS, WITH BOTH NIGHTS SELLING OUT.

ENTERTAINMENT INCLUDED A BAND CALLED “MEDICINAL AMBIENCE,” DANCE ROUTINES, ORIGINAL GUITAR WORK AND COMEDIC SKETCHES AND A GAME SHOW THAT INCLUDED HOSPITAL PRESIDENT AND CEO SCOTT McKINNON, HIS WIFE KIM AND OTHER COUPLES FROM THE AUDIENCE.

PRIZES WERE DONATED BY SHOW SPONSORS.

THE MONEY RAISED FROM THE SHOWS GOES TO THE ROY ESTEY NETWORK FOR EDUCATION ON WATER SAFETY – OR RENEWS – IN MEMORY OF ESTEY, A FORMER HOSPITAL EMPLOYEE WHO DIED IN A BOATING ACCIDENT IN 2010. THE ESTEY FUND PAYS FOR WATER SAFETY EDUCATION AND RESOURCES FOR VALLEY AREA RESIDENTS, INCLUDING SWIMMING LESSONS AND LIFE JACKETS.

NEW HAMPSHIRE AND LOCAL OFFICIALS SAY THEY’RE CONCERNED ABOUT THE HIGH NUMBER OF FATAL INCIDENTS SO FAR THIS SEASON RELATED TO RECREATIONAL WATER USE – INCLUDING TWO DROWNINGS IN JULY IN RIVERS IN THE CONWAY AREA – AND THEY URGE CAUTION AND COMMON SENSE, INCLUDING THE WEARING OF LIFE JACKETS, FOR ANYONE GOING OUT ON THE STATE’S LAKES, RIVERS AND STREAMS.
