LOCKE SCRATCHED FROM ALL-STAR GAME

PITTSBURGH PIRATE LEFTY JEFF LOCKE HAS BEEN SELECTED TO THE NATIONAL LEAGUE ALL-STAR TEAM BUT HE WON’T PITCH IN TUESDAY NIGHT’S MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL CLASSIC.

TOM SINGER OF MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL DOT COM SAYS THE DECISION WAS MADE SATURDAY TO SCRATCH LOCKE FROM HIS SCHEDULED START SUNDAY IN PITTSBURGH AGAINST THE NEW YORK METS – THE BUCS LOST THAT GAME 4-2 – AND KEEP HIM OUT OF THE ALL-STAR GAME BECAUSE OF LOWER BACK TIGHTNESS.

LOCKE’S TEAMMATE MARK MELANCON – WHO SINGER REFERS TO AS THE “NEARLY PERFECT SETUP RELIEVER” – WILL TAKE LOCKE’S PLACE ON THE ALL-STAR TEAM.

ALL-STAR FESTIVITIES KICK OFF MONDAY NIGHT WITH THE HOME RUN DERBY AT THE METS’ CITI FIELD IN NEW YORK.
