MAINE MAN ARRESTED AFTER ALLEGED STRANGULATION

THE CUMBERLAND COUNTY (MAINE) SHERIFF SAYS A 38-YEAR-OLD CASCO MAN IS BEING HELD WITHOUT BAIL AFTER HE WAS ARRESTED MONDAY AFTERNOON FOR ALLEGEDLY ASSAULTING AND STRANGLING HIS GIRLFRIEND.

KEVIN JOYCE SAYS ONE OF HIS PATROL DEPUTIES STOPPED ON ROUTE 302 IN CASCO SHORTLY BEFORE 2 A.M. SATURDAY TO HELP A FEMALE DRIVER WHO HAD RUN OUT OF GAS AND THE WOMAN – A LONGTIME GIRLFRIEND OF MATTHEW PETERSON OF LAKEWOOD RD. – REPORTEDLY TOLD THE DEPUTY PETERSON HAD TRIED TO STRANGLE HER EARLIER AFTER SHE RETURNED HOME FROM A NIGHT OUT WITH FRIENDS.

JOYCE SAYS HIS TACTICAL TEAM EXECUTED WARRANTS TO ARREST PETERSON MONDAY BECAUSE POLICE KNEW HE HAD GUNS AND HAD A HISTORY OF BEING UNCOOPERATIVE.

HE WAS ARRESTED WITHOUT INCIDENT.

PETERSON IS CHARGED WITH DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ASSAULT – STRANGULATION, A CLASS B FELONY WHERE NO BAIL IS ALLOWED.
