MAINE TEEN KILLED, TWO INJURED IN HIRAM CRASH

MAINE STATE POLICE SAY EXCESSIVE SPEED CAUSED A CRASH WEDNESDAY NIGHT IN HIRAM, MAINE THAT KILLED ONE TEENAGER AND INJURED TWO OTHERS.

MAINE DEPT. OF PUBLIC SAFETY SPOKESMAN STEVE McCAUSLAND SAYS 16-YEAR-OLD ALEXIA VALENTE OF HIRAM WAS DRIVING A 1998 NISSAN SENTRA ON RIVER RD. JUST AFTER 7 P.M. WHEN SHE LOST CONTROL ON A CURVE AND THE CAR HIT A TREE ON THE DRIVER’S SIDE.

VALENTE WAS KILLED IN THE CRASH.

THE TWO PASSENGERS – IDENTIFIED AS 16-YEAR-OLD AUSTIN LEWIS AND 17-YEAR-OLD CHRISTOPHER EAGLES – BOTH OF BALDWIN, MAINE – WERE TAKEN TO MAINE MEDICAL CENTER IN PORTLAND WITH NON-LIFE THREATENING INJURIES.

ALL THREE TEENS WERE STUDENTS AT SACOPEE VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL IN HIRAM. VALENTE LIVED ON RIVER RD.

TROOPER TOM WELCH SAYS THERE’S NO INDICATION ANY OF THE TEENS WERE WEARING SEATBELTS. THE SPEED LIMIT ON THE ROAD IS 45 MPH.
