NORTH CONWAY’S MEMORIAL HOSPITAL WILL WRAP UP ITS 100TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS FRIDAY AFTERNOON WITH A SPECIAL CEREMONY TO BURY A TIME CAPSULE ON HOSPITAL GROUNDS.

SANDY KURTZ – A RETIRED LAWYER FROM NEW YORK – SERVES ON THE HOSPITAL’S 100TH ANNIVERSARY COMMITTEE AND IS IN CHARGE OF THE TIME CAPSULE.

HE SAYS IT WILL CONTAIN ITEMS REPRESENTING THE HOSPITAL -AND THE ERA WE LIVE IN – WITH THE EXPECTATION THAT WHEN IT’S OPENED 100 YEARS FROM NOW IN 2112, PEOPLE WILL GET AN IDEA OF HOW THE HOSPITAL – AND OUR SOCIETY – WORKED.

KURTZ CREDITS ALBANY RESIDENT JACK ROSE FOR MUCH OF THE WORK ON THE PROJECT – AND SAYS COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND BUSINESSES HAVE MADE GENEROUS DONATIONS TO IT.

AS AN EXAMPLE, HUNTING DEARBORN – FORMERLY DEARBORN PRECISION OF FRYEBURG, MAINE – HAS DONATED A SPECIALLY CONSTRUCTED CAPSULE THAT WILL BE PLACED INSIDE AN OXYGEN FREE 1,500 POUND FUNERAL VAULT PROVIDED BY FURBER AND WHITE FUNERAL HOME.

ITEMS THAT WILL BE PLACED IN THE CAPSULE – AND THE CAPSULE ITSELF – CAN BE VIEWED THROUGHOUT THE DAY TUESDAY AT THE HOSPITAL – ON WEDNESDAY KURTZ STARTS THE PROCESS OF LOADING THE CAPSULE AND PREPARING IT FOR BURIAL.

THE HOSPITAL WILL HOLD A PUBLIC CEREMONY FRIDAY A 1 P.M. ON ITS FRONT LAWN TO MARK THE OCCASION.
