Concord, NH – The Plan to Expand The Mount Sunapee Resort has been approved. Yesterday the New Hampshire’s Executive Council voted 3-1, with Gubernatorial candidate Colin Van Ostern, voting against the proposal. Fellow council member and Gubernatorial candidate Chris Sununu, recused himself because he’s CEO of another ski resort.

The plan would create four new skiing trails, a new lift and a new lodge. The ski mountain leases part of its land from the state, and the Department of Resources and Economic Development supports the expansion plan. Opponents worry an expansion will encourage more development and encroach on and fail to protect the state park’s natural resources. The plan still needs to go through a series of local approvals, and no work is expected to begin for a couple years.
