My Favorite Video of 2010

by Dennis on January 6, 2011

This one is so great on so many levels.  It’s Jimmy Fallon and Bruce Springsteen, singing Willow Smith’s bubblegum smash “Whip My Hair”. Jimmy Fallon’s 70’s Neil Young impression is scary good, Bruce Springsteen impersonating himself from 30 years ago – just amazing. Then the multi-level goof on popular music starts to kick in, at least for me :).  Back when Neil looked like that, the music he sang carried the weight of a generational shift, a culture changing movement.  In those crazy days it wasn’t just pop music, it was anthemic, we gave it enormous import, it was the soundtrack of revolution. So when that unmistakable voice starts and the lyrics sound like they were written by a 10 year-old girl, it’s hard to tell if they’re making fun of the lyrics, or the weight we lent to anything that came out of our rockstar heroes’ mouths.  Anyway, this was the video that stuck with me this year. What was your favorite of 2010?
