N. CONWAY AMERICAN LEGION POST HOSTS CHRISTMAS DINNER

by Christian Mower on December 21, 2011

THE DECADES LONG TRADITION OF U.S. VETERANS PROVIDING A FREE HOLIDAY MEAL TO ANYONE WHO WANTS IT IN THE VALLEY AREA CONTINUES SUNDAY, CHRISTMAS DAY.

THAT’S WHEN MEMBERS OF NORTH CONWAY’S AMERICAN LEGION POST 95 WILL TEND TO THE OVENS AT THE CONWAY CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH – THE LITTLE BROWN CHURCH AT 132 MAIN STREET.

U.S. NAVY VETERAN AND LEGION MEMBER JOHN PANDORA STARTED THE TRADITION BACK IN THE 1980s BY PREPARING THE FOOD – AND 37 PEOPLE TURNED OUT.

THIS YEAR U.S. AIR FORCE VETERAN AND LEGION MEMBER MIKE GILMORE – WHO IS RELIEVING PANDORA OF HIS CULINARY RESPONSIBILITIES – HOPES FOR A TURNOUT OF NEARLY 10 TIMES THAT AMOUNT.

GILMORE STRESSES EVERYONE IS WELCOME – AND THE MEAL IS  NOT JUST FOR THOSE WHO CAN’T AFFORD TO PAY FOR A MEAL OR THOSE WHO DON’T HAVE A PLACE TO GO.

GILMORE SAYS HE’S GRATEFUL FOR THE CONTRIBUTION OF FOOD FROM VARIOUS SUPERMARKETS AND BAKERIES. THE COOKING STARTS AT 8 A.M. SUNDAY, MEALS WILL BE DELIVERED STARTING AT 11 A.M., WITH DOORS OPENING FOR DINERS AT NOON.

FINANCIAL DONATIONS ARE ALSO WELCOME.

ANYONE WHO WOULD LIKE TO VOLUNTEER CAN CALL (207) 935-2552 OR (603) 356-2331.

PLEASE LEAVE A MESSAGE WITH CONTACT INFORMATION.

ANYONE WHO NEEDS A RIDE TO THE CHURCH FOR THE SUNDAY DINNER CAN CALL CONWAY POLICE AT (603) 356-5715.
