NH AG WARNS OF POSSIBLE CT SHOOTING SCAMS

by Christian Mower on December 24, 2012

NEW HAMPSHIRE’S ATTORNEY GENERAL SAYS HIS OFFICE HAS BEEN NOTIFIED BY THE STATE OF CONNECTICUT FRAUDULENT APPEALS ARE BEING MADE FOR DONATIONS TO THE FAMILIES AND VICTIMS OF THE SHOOTING TRAGEDY IN NEWTOWN.

MICHAEL DELANEY SAYS THERE HAVEN’T BEEN ANY COMPLAINTS OF QUESTIONABLE SOLICITATIONS IN NEW HAMPSHIRE BUT HE URGES CITIZENS TO BE WARY OF SUCH PHONE CALLS AND STOP ANY CONVERSATION WHERE A CALLER USES HIGH PRESSURE TACTICS TO ASK FOR AN IMMEDIATE DONATION.

DELANEY SAYS CONSUMERS SHOULD ASK FOR SOLICITATION MATERIALS IN WRITING AND THEY SHOULD NEVER GIVE OUT PERSONAL FINANCIAL INFORMATION LIKE SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS, DATES OF BIRTH AND BANK ACCOUNT NUMBERS.

HE ENCOURAGES CITIZENS TO GIVE TO CHARITIES DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON, BUT TO GIVE WISELY.
