NHEC AND UNION AGREE TO NEW CONTRACT; STRIKE AVERTED

by Gair on October 5, 2012

A SPOKESMAN FOR NEW HAMPSHIRE ELECTRIC CO-OP SAYS A STRIKE HAS BEEN AVERTED AS MEMBERS OF THE UNION REPRESENTING 85 WORKERS AT THE CO-OP HAVE VOTED TO APPROVE THE TERMS OF A NEW FIVE AND A HALF YEAR CONTRACT.

SETH WHEELER SAYS THE AGREEMENT STILL NEEDS TO BE APPROVED BY THE CO-OP BOARD OF DIRECTORS – WHICH WILL MEET MONDAY TO CONSIDER IT – BUT FRIDAY’S VOTE BY MEMBERS OF THE INTERNATIONAL BROTHERHOOD OF ELECTRICAL WORKERS (IBEW) LOCAL 1837 MEANS THERE WILL BE NO WORK STOPPAGE AT MIDNIGHT FRIDAY.

THE CO-OP IS A MEMBER OWNED ELECTRIC DISTRIBUTION COOPERATIVE THAT SERVES 83,000 CUSTOMERS IN 115 NEW HAMPSHIRE COMMUNITIES.
