DEPUTY EXPECTED TO RECOVER FROM SHOOTING

NEW HAMPSHIRE STATE POLICE SAY A DEPUTY FROM THE CARROLL COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE IS EXPECTED TO FULLY RECOVER AFTER HE WAS ACCIDENTALLY SHOT IN THE LOWER LEG AND FOOT BY HIS OWN GUN DEC. 24, 2012.

SGT. JUSTIN ROWE OF TROOP E IN TAMWORTH SAYS THE ACCIDENTAL SHOOTING HAPPENED WHEN THE UNIDENTIFIED DEPUTY WAS ASSISTING IN AN INVESTIGATION OF A SHOOTING IN FREEDOM MONDAY NIGHT.

THE DEPUTY WAS TAKEN BY AMBULANCE TO HUGGINS HOSPITAL IN WOLFEBORO.

ROWE SAYS TROOPERS WERE CALLED TO HUCKINS RD. SHORTLY AFTER 8 P.M. TO INVESTIGATE A REPORT OF A VICTIM WHO HAD SUFFERED A GUNSHOT WOUND. THEY FOUND A MAN WITH A GUNSHOT WOUND TO HIS LEG AND THE VICTIM WAS TAKEN TO MEMORIAL HOSPITAL IN NORTH CONWAY, WHERE HE WAS TREATED AND RELEASED.

TROOPERS ARRESTED 38-YEAR-OLD JOSEPH WRIGHT OF PARSONSFIELD, MAINE – WHO ALLEGEDLY WAS PRESENT DURING THE SHOOTING – AND CHARGED HIM WITH FALSIFYING PHYSICAL EVIDENCE, HINDERING APPREHENSION AND RESISTING ARREST. WRIGHT WAS TAKEN TO THE CARROLL COUNT JAIL IN OSSIPEE.

AS THE INVESTIGATION INTO THE INCIDENT CONTINUES, ROWE IS ASKING FOR THE PUBLIC’S HELP IN IDENTIFYING ANOTHER MAN AND WOMAN WHO WERE REPORTEDLY AT THE SCENE WHEN THE SHOOTING TOOK PLACE.

IN ADDITION TO THE CARROLL COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE, TROOPERS WERE ASSISTED BY POLICE DEPARTMENTS FROM FREEDOM, MADISON AND OSSIPEE – AND FIRE AND EMS PERSONNEL.
