ONE DEAD AFTER ATV CRASH IN NAPLES, MAINE

AN OFFICER WITH THE CUMBERLAND COUNTY (MAINE) SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS A 24-YEAR-OLD NAPLES WOMAN IS DEAD AFTER AN ATV CRASH IN NAPLES EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING.

CAPT. CRAIG SMITH SAYS SHANAN LOUD WAS RIDING ON ONE OF TWO ATV’S WITH A MALE COMPANION SHORTLY BEFORE 5 A.M. WEDNESDAY ON THE RIVER ROAD IN NAPLES WHEN THE ATV WENT AIRBORNE OFF THE ROAD INTO SOME TREES, BEFORE COMING TO REST IN THE CROOKED RIVER NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF EDES FALLS ROAD.

LOUD – FORMALLY OF HIRAM, MAINE – WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE. HER RIDING COMPANION – IDENTIFIED AS 28-YEAR-OLD JOHNATHAN CASWELL OF NAPLES – FORMERLY OF RANDOLPH, MAINE – WAS TREATED BY NAPLES FIRE AND EMS BEFORE BEING TAKEN TO BRIDGTON HOSPITAL.

HE WAS LATER LIFE FLIGHTED TO CENTRAL MAINE MEDICAL CENTER WITH SERIOUS INJURIES.

HE WAS REPORTED TO BE IN FAIR CONDITION WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON.

SMITH SAYS NEITHER RIDER WAS WEARING A HELMET AND SPEED AND ALCOHOL APPEAR TO BE FACTORS IN THE CRASH.

THE MAINE WARDEN SERVICE IS ASSISTING IN THE INVESTIGATION.
