THE CHIEF OF THE CENTER OSSIPEE FIRE DEPARTMENT SAYS NO ONE WAS HURT AFTER A BARN FIRE WEDNESDAY NIGHT THAT KEPT FIREFIGHTERS WORKING WELL INTO THE EARLY MORNING HOURS THURSDAY.

MIKE BROWNELL SAYS A FIRST ALARM WAS DECLARED JUST AFTER 10:15 P.M. WEDNESDAY AND HIS FIREFIGHTERS RESPONDED TO FIND AN OLD 2-STORY BARN FULLY INVOLVED AT 78 MOULTONVILLE RD.

FIREFIGHTERS FROM WEST OSSIPEE, OSSIPEE CORNER AND TAMWORTH AND CARE PLUS AMBULANCE RESPONDED TO THE SCENE WHILE FIREFIGHTERS FROM TUFTONBORO COVERED THE FIRE STATION.

BESIDE TRYING TO PROTECT A NEARBY 2-STORY HOUSE THAT WAS ONLY 15 FEET FROM THE BURNING BARN, FIREFIGHTERS ALSO HAD TO DEAL WITH A LIVE POWER LINE THAT CAME DOWN.

BROWNELL SAYS THE FLAMES FROM THE BURNING BARN ROSE ABOUT 60 FEET IN THE AIR. ABOUT 70 FIREFIGHTERS WERE AT THE SCENE.

OSSIPEE POLICE CLOSED DOWN THE NEARBY ROAD DURING THE INCIDENT.

THE CHIEF SAYS THE BARN IS A TOTAL LOSS.

FIREFIGHTERS WERE AT THE SCENE UNTIL SHORTLY BEFORE 2 A.M. THURSDAY AND RETURNED AGAIN LATER TO CHECK FOR ANY HOT SPOTS.

NO ONE WAS HURT. BROWNELL SAYS THE HOUSE WAS SAVED, ALTHOUGH ONE WINDOW BLEW OUT AND THERE MAY BE SOME MINOR SMOKE DAMAGE INSIDE.
