POLICE SEARCH FOR REPORTED GUNMAN

CONWAY POLICE SAY THERE IS NO CAUSE FOR ALARM IN THE CONWAY AREA AFTER AN INTENSE INVESTIGATION AND SEARCH WAS CONDUCTED LATE TUESDAY MORNING AROUND THE CONWAY PINES APARTMENT COMPLEX OFF ROUTE 16 IN CONWAY.

LT. CHRIS PERLEY SAYS A CALL CAME IN FROM A WOMAN WHO LIVES AT THE APARTMENT COMPLEX SHORTLY AFTER 10:15 A.M. REPORTING SHE HAD SEEN A MASKED MAN IN HIS 20s ON HER GROUND FLOOR DECK POINTING A GUN AT HER.

SHE THEN TOLD POLICE THE MAN RAN OFF.

PERLEY SAYS HIS OFFICERS RESPONDED TO THE AREA IMMEDIATELY, QUESTIONED POTENTIAL WITNESSES AND CONDUCTED AN EXTENSIVE AREA SEARCH WITH A K-9 PROVIDED BY THE CARROLL COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE TO ENSURE THERE WERE NO HAZARDS – INCLUDING A WEAPON OR SUSPECT – IN THE AREA.

PERLEY SAYS OFFICERS REVIEWED SECURITY CAMERA VIDEO OF THE COMPLEX BUT DIDN’T SEE ANYTHING..

HE SAYS HE DOESN’T WANT TO SAY IT’S A FALSE REPORT BUT THE LACK OF PHYSICAL EVIDENCE AT THE SCENE COMBINED WITH A REVIEW OF THE SECURITY CAMERAS TENDS TO RULE OUT TO SOME DEGREE THE VERACITY OR GRAVITY OF THE CALL.

OFFICERS CLEARED THE SCENE AND RESUMED NORMAL PATROL DUTIES AROUND 11 A.M. TUESDAY.

THEY CONTINUE TO INVESTIGATE THE INCIDENT.
