Conway, NH – Yesterday (November 18)  was Mount Washington Radio’s 14th Annual Radio Food Drive. A live radio broadcast took place at the Vaughn Community Center in North Conway from 6am to 6pm on both 93.5 WMWV and Magic 104.5 as volunteers collected frozen turkeys and non-perishable food items to be distributed across the various Mount Washington Valley Food Pantries.

We collected non-perishable food, toiletries, pet Items, and of course cash donations. People and business from all over the valley came to donate with some dropping off turkeys by the truckloads, which were then stored in a freezer trailer generously lent to us by the Moat Mountain Brewery.

Some of the Highlights included Stan Szetela who donated 50 turkeys and Buzz Coleman who donated 60. Each year the two of them compete to see who can donate the first large amount of turkeys the earliest with Szetela taking the win this year at 6am.

Infinger Insurance donated over 100 turkeys. The local employees at Home Depot pooled their money together and worked with Walmart to purchase 76 frozen turkeys to donate. One family even anonymously donated $5,000 cash!

This years goal was 500 turkeys and I’m happy to say we not only beat our goal but also set a record for donations received. The final count at the end of the night was 522 turkeys and $10,470 in cash donations collected which is the most cash ever collected for this event. Even better is that for every dollar donated The New Hampshire Food bank said they would donate $4 worth of food from the food bank meaning that they will be donating over $40,000 dollars worth of food from the New Hampshire Food Bank to be distributed throughout the Mount Washington Valley!
