A SPOKESMAN FOR THE U.S. SMALL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION IS REMINDING PEOPLE IN CARROLL COUNTY AND SURROUNDING AREAS NOVEMBER 7TH IS THE DEADLINE FOR FILING CLAIMS RELATED TO DAMAGE FROM TROPICAL STORM IRENE.

GREG DAWSON IS WORKING OUT OF THE JOINT FIELD OFFICE IN CONCORD – HE SAYS STATEWIDE ONLY ABOUT 10 PERCENT OF THE NEARLY 400 APPLICATIONS FOR BUSINESSES AND HOME LOAN ASSISTANCE HAVE BEEN RETURNED SO FAR.

THE SBA IS OPERATING A BUSINESS RECOVERY CENTER IN GRAFTON COUNTY BUT IF YOU’RE NOT ABLE TO GET THERE, CALL THEM AT 1-800-659-2955.

MEANWHILE, THE FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY SAYS PEOPLE IN CARROLL AND GRAFTON COUNTIES WHO ARE UNEMPLOYED AS A DIRECT RESULT OF THE STORM CAN REGISTER FOR WEEKLY BENEFIT PAYMENTS UNDER THE DISASTER UNEMPLOYMENT PROGRAM – OR D-U-A – BUT THE DEADLINE IS MONDAY OCTOBER 10TH.

FEMA SPOKESPERSON KIM ANDERSON SAYS THIS ASSISTANCE IS AVAILABLE FOR SELF-EMPLOYED WORKERS AND EMPLOYEES AND YOU MAY BE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY IF YOU WERE INJURED AND UNABLE TO WORK, YOUR WORKPLACE WAS DAMAGED OR DESTROYED OR YOUR TRANSPORTATION TO WORK IS NOT AVAILABLE BECAUSE OF THE DISASTER.
