U.S. SENATOR JEANNE SHAHEEN OF NEW HAMPSHIRE GOT A LOOK AT THE INNER WORKINGS OF AN AFFORDABLE APARTMENT COMPLEX IN CONWAY WEDNESDAY.

THE FORMER NEW HAMPSHIRE GOVERNOR MADE BRIEF REMARKS SHORTLY BEFORE NOON TO ABOUT 50 PEOPLE WHO HAD GATHERED AT THE CONWAY PINES COMPLEX OFF ROUTE 16. THE COMPLEX INCLUDES MORE THAN 30 APARTMENTS THAT OFFER MODEST RENTS THAT ALLOW PEOPLE WHO WORK IN THE VALLEY TO LIVE NEAR WHERE THEY WORK.

THE WELL-INSULATED COMPLEX USES STATE OF THE ART GEOTHERMAL, SOLAR AND WELL SYSTEMS FOR HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING.

THERESA KENNETT – WHO’S WORK WITH THE MOUNT WASHINGTON VALLEY HOUSING COALITION WAS CRITICAL IN GETTING THE COMPLEX BUILT, ANNOUNCED THAT A SECOND COMPLEX PROVIDING AFFORDABLE HOUSING FOR SENIORS IS PLANNED FOR CONSTRUCTION NEXT DOOR TO CONWAY PINES – SHE WELCOMED SENATOR SHAHEEN AND GOVERNMENT ATTENDEES FROM THE FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL LEVELS.

SHAHEEN SAYS THE CHEAPEST, FASTEST WAY TO DEAL WITH THE COUNTRY’S ENERGY USE IS ENERGY EFFICIENCY. SHE SAYS SHE’S TRYING TO GET LEGISLATION THROUGH THAT WILL ALLOW OTHER PROJECTS LIKE CONWAY PINES TO HAPPEN THROUGHOUT NEW HAMPSHIRE AND THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY.

THE SENATOR MET WITH A RESIDENT AND DISCUSSED HER LIVING ARRANGEMENTS WITH HER DURING HER TOUR OF THE COMPLEX.

SHAHEEN AND OTHER ATTENDEES SAID THEY LOOK FORWARD TO ANALYZING THE COST DATA – AND HOPED-FOR COST SAVINGS – OF CONWAY PINES, WHEN THAT INFORMATION BECOMES AVAILABLE. THE COMPLEX HAS OPERATING SINCE LAST THE AUTUMN OF 2012.

I think a better site, not on a major highway, could be found for the apartment complex.
