District One U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-NH) will meet with hikers and tour the White Mountain National Forest Friday morning with John Judge, the president of the Appalachian Mountain Club.
Shea-Porter announced Monday the Forest has been awarded a $2 million grant from the Federal Highway Administration to repair roads and bridges damaged by the remnants of Tropical Storm Irene.
Shea-Porter, a member of the House Armed Services Committee and a former military spouse, will then host a Rural Veterans Forum at the American Legion Hall on Tasker Hill Rd. in Conway, at noon Friday. The representative says she wants to hear directly from former servicemembers and their families about the challenges they face.
The congresswoman says she’s committed to helping veterans find good jobs and access the health and education benefits they’ve earned.
Lunch will be provided. Reservations are not required, but any veteran who knows they will be able to attend is asked to call veteran Josh Denton, the congresswoman’s veterans’ liaison, at (603) 641-9536, so he can get a head count for lunch.
