STARTING POINT HOLDS DISCUSSION ON CHILD ABUSE

by Christian Mower on December 3, 2011

REPRESENTATIVES FROM STARTING POINT – THE NON-PROFIT AGENCY THAT PROVIDES SERVICES FOR VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC AND SEXUAL VIOLENCE IN CARROLL COUNTY – WILL HOST A DISCUSSION MONDAY NIGHT AT THE CONWAY PUBLIC LIBRARY ABOUT CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE – AND WHAT PARENTS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS CAN DO TO REDUCE THE RISK OF IT.

OUTREACH ADVOCATE GRETCHEN DAVIDSON SAYS THE IDEA IS TO HAVE A CONVERSATION ABOUT KEEPING CHILDREN SAFE AFTER RECENT NATIONAL NEWS REPORTS OF ALLEGED ABUSE.

SOME OF THE TOPICS THAT WILL BE DISCUSSED INCLUDE RISK FACTORS THAT MAKE SOME CHILDREN VULNERABLE TO SEXUAL ABUSE – HOW TO TALK TO KIDS ABOUT THEIR OWN SAFETY AND HAVING A “SAFE” ADULT THEY CAN TALK TO – AS WELL AS REQUIREMENTS FOR REPORTING ABUSE – INCLUDING HOW AND WHEN TO DO IT.

THE MEETING STARTS AT 6:30 P.M. AND WILL LAST ABOUT AN HOUR AND A HALF. IT’S FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. REFRESHMENTS WILL BE SERVED. ANYONE WHO WOULD LIKE TO ATTEND BUT NEEDS TRANSPORTATION IS ASKED TO CALL STARTING POINT AT (603) 447-2494.

DAVIDSON SAYS SHE AND STARTING POINT EXEC. DIRECTOR SUZETTE INDELICATO WILL BE HAPPY TO TALK PRIVATELY WITH ANYONE WHO ATTENDS AFTER THE PUBLIC SESSION.

STARTING POINT’S TOLL-FREE 24 HOUR SUPPORT LINE CAN BE REACHED AT 1-800-336-3795. FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION, SEE THE WEBSITE AT www.startingpointnh.org.
