Storm leaves up to a foot of snow

A meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Gray, Maine says Wednesday’s snowstorm – as predicted – generally dropped from 8 to 12 inches of new snow in the valley area and western Maine.

Mike Cempa said Thursay morning he hadn’t heard of any major problems – or major power outages – caused by the storm – and the snow was light and fluffy.

Cempa says a coastal storm expected this weekend will probably affect areas south of New York, down to the Carolinas, but not have a significant impact on New England.

Looking farther out, Cempa says it doesn’t look like the valley will experience the extreme cold it felt in January – it looks like temperatures will stay around normal or slightly below normal through next week, with a possible slight warming trend in mid-February.
