TOWN SURVEYS RESIDENTS ABOUT NEW CHIEF

by Christian Mower on October 12, 2011

TOWN LEADERS IN MOULTONBOROUGH WANT TO KNOW WHAT RESIDENTS EXPECT FROM THE TOWN’S NEXT POLICE CHIEF – AND RESIDENTS NEED TO PROVIDE THEIR INPUT SOON.

TOWN ADMINISTRATOR CARTER TERENZINI SAYS RESULTS OF AN ONLINE SURVEY OF RESIDENTS WILL BE USED AS THE TOWN BEGINS THE RECRUITMENT PROCESS FOR IT’S NEXT CHIEF, TO REPLACE THOMAS DAWSON, WHO RESIGNED SEPTEMBER 1ST.

TERENZINI SAYS THE SURVEY HAS A NUMBER OF FIXED AND OPEN ENDED QUESTIONS TO IDENTIFY IDEAL CHARACTERISTICS THE COMMUNITY THINKS THE NEXT CHIEF SHOULD HAVE – AND THE ISSUES THE CHIEF WILL FACE IN THE JOB. IT ALSO ASKS RESIDENTS TO COMMENT ON CONCERNS AND STEPS THAT CAN BE TAKEN TO IMPROVE THE DEPARTMENT’S EFFECTIVENESS IN MEETING COMMUNITY NEEDS.

THE POLICE DEPARTMENT HAS ABOUT A DOZEN OFFICERS, PLUS ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF.

THE SURVEY ASKS RESIDENTS TO COMMENT ABOUT THE CRIME RATE, PERSONAL AND PROPERTY SAFETY, JUVENILE PROBLEMS, DRUGS, TRAFFIC – THEIR EXPERIENCE INTERACTING WITH THE POLICE DEPARTMENT, OVERALL IMPRESSION OF THE DEPARTMENT, THE BIGGEST ISSUE THE NEW CHIEF WILL FACE AND WHAT ROLE THE CHIEF SHOULD PLAY IN THE COMMUNITY.

TERENZINI DECLINES TO COMMENT ON WHY DAWSON RESIGNED AFTER BEING CHIEF FOR ABOUT TWO YEARS – A SHORT NEWS RELEASE FROM SELECTMEN LAST MONTH ANNOUNCED DAWSON HAD RESIGNED “CITING A PHILOSOPHICAL DIFFERENCE WITH THE BOARD AS TO THE OPERATIONS OF THE (MOULTONBOROUGH) POLICE DEPARTMENT. THE BOARD THANKS HIM FOR HIS SERVICE AND WISHES HIM AND HIS FAMILY WELL.”

THE SURVEY CAN BE ACCESSED THROUGH CLOSE OF BUSINESS THURSDAY, OCTOBER 13TH AT THE TOWN’S WEBSITE AT www.moultonboroughnh.gov.
