MOULTONBOROUGH POLICE SAY THEY WILL ASK A GRAND JURY TO INDICT A 23-YEAR-OLD CONWAY MAN AND TWO MEN FROM WEARE AFTER THE TRIO WAS ALLEGEDLY CAUGHT IN THE ACT OF TRYING TO STEAL SOMETHING FROM A PROPERTY IN MOULTONBOROUGH.

SGT. PETER BEEDE, JR. SAYS DANIEL R. CHESLEY – WHO HAD CHARGES AGAINST HIM DROPPED IN 2010 IN CONNECTION WITH A CAR HE ALLEGEDLY CRASHED IN NORTH CONWAY THAT KILLED ONE TEENAGE PASSENGER AND SERIOUSLY INJURED ANOTHER – IS NOW BEING HELD ON $2,500 CASH BAIL AT THE CARROLL COUNTY JAIL.

BEEDE SAYS HIS OFFICERS STAKED OUT A PROPERTY IN MOULTONBOROUGH FRIDAY AND ALLEGEDLY CAUGHT CHESLEY – AND TWO ACCOMPLICES – TRYING TO STEAL AN UNDISCLOSED ITEM.

THE THREE MEN WERE ARRESTED WITHOUT INCIDENT.

THE TRIO HAD ALLEGEDLY RETURNED TO THE SAME PROPERTY IN MOULTONBOROUGH – AFTER PLACING FALSE ADS ONLINE ON “CRAIGSLIST” AND THEN TRYING TO STEAL THE ITEMS THEY HAD LISTED. BEEDE SAYS ONE ITEM THAT ACTUALLY WAS STOLEN HAS BEEN RECOVERED.

ARRESTED WITH CHESLEY WERE 20-YEAR-OLD ADAM S. QUINNEY AND 27-YEAR-OLD ALLEN W. DOWNS – BOTH OF WEARE. ALL THREE SUSPECTS WERE ARRAIGNED MONDAY IN DISTRICT COURT IN OSSIPEE. A JUDGE SET BAIL FOR DOWNS AT $2,500 CASH AND FOR QUINNEY AT $10,000 PERSONAL RECOGNIZANCE.

ALL THREE MEN ARE CHARGED WITH THREE FELONY COUNTS OF THEFT, ATTEMPTED THEFT AND CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT THEFT – AND A VIOLATION LEVEL OFFENSE OF CRIMINAL TRESPASS.

BEEDE SAYS CONWAY POLICE ASSISTED IN THE INVESTIGATION AND MORE CHARGES ARE LIKELY IN THE CASE.

CONWAY POLICE LT. CHRIS PERLEY SAYS HE ANTICIPATES HIS DEPARTMENT WILL APPLY FOR AN ARREST WARRANT FOR MISDEMEANOR THEFT IN CONNECTION WITH AT LEAST ONE OF THE SUSPECTS WHO ALLEGEDLY STOLE SCRAP IRON FROM THE ROCK QUARRY IN REDSTONE.
